The rear naked choke (RNC) remains the most effective submission to end a fight until now. It is also one of the basic submissions taught to white belts or beginners in submission grappling sports. Because it is so effective and popular, a lot of grapplers have also learned to defend it.

Therefore, the RNC has also gone through a lot of development in terms of its finish. A couple of days ago, BJJ black belt and competitor Lachlan Giles of the Absolute MMA St. Kilda in Melbourne, Australia, shared a new development on how to finish the RNC. He showed a slight adjustment on how he used the control hand to go behind his opponent’s neck with less risk of sacrificing his own position or leverage. Here is the instructional:

Warning: The RNC is a lethal and dangerous submission. Do not try this move on anyone if you are untrained. You can practice it safely by joining a BJJ/submission grappling class.
