In my latest sparring session with long-time rolling partner Indra “Cholo” Prabowo, I tried to do a lot of lapel-based attacks including the worm guard. Dude has been rolling with me regularly so he knows that I love the half-guard. In recent weeks, he also knows that I have been drilling some lapel technique so he tried his best to not let me grab on his lapel or shooting for the deep half guard.
It was a great spar. I managed to sweep him once with the worm guard but then I tried to get fancy to follow it up with a berimbolo to take his back and then lost the position. In the last few seconds, he did a great flip to get on my back and I was in a survival mode to escape. The spar ended in a draw based on submission but I do not know who won based on IBJJF point system.
